Poker Software
With so much attention to detail, it should be no shock that PKR Poker does require a download. Unfortunately, the software is compatible with Windows PC’s only (2000 SP3+, XP SP1+, Vista). PKR Poker seems to run well on pretty much any computer built in the last 5 years. As exceptional as the game play is, the software takes up more than 600 MB, so if you’re on dial-up, don’t even bother. For everyone else though, the PKR Poker experience is nothing short of amazing.
Members of PKR Poker will find highly customizable avatars and a 3D landscape that is as realistic as they come. Unique camera views make you feel like your watching the World Series of Poker, and playing in it too. The PKR Poker Lobby offers all the essential statistics – average pot size, hands per hour and viewed-flop %. The hand history function is pretty good. Classify your opponents, show off one or both cards after a hand, set your avatar’s mood and use Emotes to make your avatar perform various actions. The more you play and/or win at PKR, the more Emotes you gain access to, such as special chip tricks and peeking at your hole cards, just like the pros. As I said, PKR Poker is simply amazing when it comes to the 3D graphics and realistic avatar capabilities.
Games Offered
PKR Poker is fairly limited in its game selection, offering only Texas Hold’em, available in all Limits, plus Omaha and Omaha Hi-Lo, available in Fixed Limit and Pot Limit. Rumor has it that PKR is looking to add Stud and Draw games as well, which would greatly perk the line-up. Blinds start at Micro-Limits of $.01/$.02 and scale as high as $100/$200. Short-handed, Full-Table and Heads-Up action is available, with cash games, multi-table and sit’n'go tournaments.
Poker Promotions
PKR Poker provides a fully loaded tournament schedule, presenting plenty of Freerolls and Guaranteeds, along with various Satellites and ‘Terminator’ Tournaments (better known as bounties). Freerolls occur six times a day with $10, $20 and $50 prize pools, giving newbies a chance to learn the MTT ropes while playing risk-free, and perhaps stacking their bankroll in the process. a $10,000 Premium Freeroll is held on the last Sunday of each month, requiring enough PKR Points to enter.
Guaranteed tournaments at PKR pay out more than $1.8 million each month. $20k and $25k Guaranteeds are easy to find, with a $100k Guaranteed on the last Saturday of each month. Tournament buy-ins start as low as $1, going as high as $250. One of PKR Poker’s unique tournament features are the ‘One-Hand Satellites’, awarding entry to a bigger event for winning a single hand, where every player is all-in. These satellites are especially popular right before the start of a big event.
Traffic
As of April 2008, PKR Poker hosts an average peak hour traffic rate of 1,100 real money cash game players and 5,000 tournament players. Most of that traffic is concentrated on Limit and No Limit Texas Hold’em tables, especially in low to mid-level stakes. The juiciest competition is found at low limit full-table games, frequently revealing a viewed-flop percentage of 50%-60%. Freeroll Tournaments are generally very loose, as well.
Deposit and Withdrawal Options
PKR Poker supplies a good number of deposit and withdrawals options for player convenience, but it should be noted that US player deposits are nor accepted at this time.
