Heads Up Poker – Phase Tournaments
PKR Poker is running Heads up phase tournaments all the time. You buy in for $3.80+$0.20 and start at level one. When you win your match, you move up to the next level. There are 10 levels in total. If you make it to the final phase, then you’ll win money no matter what. The winner of the Heads up final phase earns $380 while the looser earns $75.
Losing a Heads Up Poker Game
OK so winning means you move one step up. What happens when you lose? Simple: you drop 2 steps. In other words, as long as you don’t lose at phase 1 or 2, then you’re still in the game which means that $3.80 can last you a while. When I recorded the poker video below, I made it from phase 1 to phase 8 without losing a single game. Now, I won’t lie to you, I did outdraw opponents on occasions. It’s pretty much inevitable that luck is going to save you or screw you at least once. However, if you play these over and over, the long trend is always about performance and how good your poker strategy is.
Making it to Phase 10
If you play well, you should be able to get to phase 10 in less than a day. I made it to phase 10 in one afternoon, then the next day I started from the bottom and climbed back to phase 7, then stopped playing because I had other commitments. My point is this: f you are a good Heads up player, you can make a nice return with these games. Think about it for a second. Suppose you do get to phase 10 and win on a single buy-in, then you’ve effectively won 100 x your buy in! You spent $3.80 and turned it into $380 in a day. That means you basically get to try this out 100 times before you break even, and trust me, if you can win it once, it won’t take you 100 attempts to win it again.
Competition at PKR Poker
I found that the competition was average at PKR Poker. I faced a lot of bad players, and a couple of solid players. A memorable moment was when I played an opponent who was so tight, I kept check raising them post flop and they kept folding. The chat box wasn’t pretty that day! You could read comments like “OMGU HIT EVERY TIME!!!” OR “MAN THIS GAME IS RIGGED!!!”. I even told the person “don’t assume that because I bet means I have it” and then I showed the bluffs! They still played too tight, even after I told them exactly what I was doing! In fact, I think I will make a video of just this match soon because it was so hilarious, and it’s the perfect example of adapting to the play style of an opponent.
